This gear is only for VDO electronic (Quartz) dashboard clock in 70s Mercedes, Porsche and other models.
It is also recommended to replace the flat 48 toothed gear which is fit onto a brass sleeve. This clock unit is especially prone to electronic issues as well. Even if the broken gear is replaced, it might still not work. You may try in advance - if the electronic motor spins when given power supply, the new gear will surely fix your problem for ever!
